BIG BEAR BUSINESS OWNER PROFILE
Alexandra and Paul Mejia, Harvest Moon Essentials
The Grizzly wants to help our community get to know our local business owners better. We’re inviting our community members to share, in their own words, why they’ve chosen to invest in Big Bear, and what makes local businesses special.
Where are you from, and how did you come to sell your products in Big Bear?
I am originally from San Bernardino, and my family and I moved to Lucerne Valley in 2016. We bought five acres so we could build a farm and a better life for our kids.
I worked as the respiratory therapy director at Bear Valley Community Hospital from 2017 to 2025. Our son went to school in Big Bear. We also volunteered with Interact through Rotary, so it made sense that when we launched Harvest Moon Essentials, we would start selling in a community we were already known in.
Tell our readers about the products/services you offer and what sets you apart from other similar businesses.
Our passion is producing the highest quality goods including:
- Herbal supplements (sublingual tinctures)
- All natural herbal salves
- All natural shea butter lotions
- Tallow lotions made with our essential oils and supplemented with Doterra essential oils
- All natural shea butter lotions and all natural shea butter lip balms, including those tinted with beet and pomegranate powder
- 100% grass-fed beef tallow lotions made with our essential oils and supplements
What sets us apart is that I am a respiratory care practitioner and a dual certified herbalist. We grow a lot of the herbs we use in our products, and I also teach herbal workshops in the community once a month at The Mystic Rose Salon and Apothecary.
I teach students how to make their own tincture, salve or hydrosalve.
Where in Big Bear can folks find your products?
Harvest Moon Essentials products are available at the Mystic Rose Salon and Apothecary, Snow Summit Pro Shop and Bear Cupboard Market. We also sell our products at the Big Bear Lake Farmers Market every Friday night from 3 to 8 p.m. at Meadow Park.
What is the most special part of growing your business in Big Bear?
The best part for me is being in the community I served when I worked in the emergency room at the hospital and ensuring that those in the community have access to high quality herbal supplements and other natural products that allow them to move toward a more natural way of living.
What excites you most (looking forward) about your business?
I love hearing testimonials from our customers about how our products have helped them and expanding our all-natural product line.
